Hans Koch est né en 1948 et vit à Bienne, en Suisse. Il a quitté sa carrière de clarinettiste reconnu pour devenir l'un des improvisateurs d'anches européen le plus innovatif. Depuis les années 80, il a travaillé avec nombre de musiciens, allant de Cecil Taylor à Fred Frith. En tant que compositeur, il a modelé le son du trio Koch-Schutz-Studer depuis le début et a travaillé pour la radio et le cinéma. Depuis les année 90, il utilise l'électronique en tant qu'extension de ses saxophones et clarinettes et pour du sample/sequencing. En tant que joueur de sax et de clarinettes, il se distingue par un jeu très personnel qui le rend unique sur la scène de la musique actuelle.

Born 1948, lives in Biel, Switzerland. Hans Koch has quit his carreer as a recognised classical clarinetist to become one of the most innovative improvising reed-players in Europe. He has been working with everyone from Cecil Taylor to Fred Frith since the eighties. As a composer he has shaped the sound of Koch-Schütz-Studer since the beginning as well as working for radio-plays and film.Since the nineties he has been working with electronics as an extension of the saxes/clarinets as well as with sampling/sequencing. As a reed-player he is always working on his very own vocabulary and sound, which makes him a very unique voice on the actual scene.
